    Radio broadcasting in India began in 1923 (7BY Bombay), FM radio was introduced in 1972 in the Madras (Chennai), DRM digital radio launched in 2012. State-owned All India Radio – AIR (Akashvani) was formed in 1936 and today is the largest radio network in the country, transmitting on MW, SW (analogue and Digital DRM) and FM. Broadcasting is regulated by the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting – MIB . Several private networks and many community radio stations also operate on FM. Currently there are over 300 AM (analog and digital MW) and 800 FM radio transmitters in India. Primary languages on radio are Hindi and English, with regional stations in Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and other languages.

Dhaka radio stations

    Radio broadcasting in today's Bangladesh began in 1939 (All India Radio Dacca). After 1947, Radio Dhaka continued its transmission as a station of Pakistan Broadcasting Service, in 1971 it was renamed to Radio Bangladesh. Today, Bangladesh Betar is the largest radio network in the country, transmitting on MW, SW and FM. Broadcasting is regulated by the Ministry of Information – MoI . Many private radio networks and community stations also operate on FM. Currently there are over 20 AM and 60 FM radio transmitters in Bangladesh. Primary languages on radio are Bengali and English.

    Radio broadcasting in Pakistan began in 1928 (VUL Radio YMCA, Lahore). State-owned Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation – PBC was established in 1947 and today is the largest radio network in the country, transmitting on MW, SW and FM. Broadcasting is regulated by Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority – PEMRA . Several private networks and many community and university radio stations also operate on FM. Currently there are over 80 AM and 200 FM radio transmitters in Pakistan. Primary languages on radio are Urdu and English, with regional stations in Balochi, Pashto, Punjabi, Sindhi.

    Radio broadcasting in Afghanistan began in 1925 (Radio Kabul). State-owned Radio-Television Afghanistan – RTA operates network of radio stations on MW, SW and FM. Broadcasting is regulated by the Afghanistan Telecom Regulatory Authority – ATRA . Currently there are over 150 FM radio stations in Afghanistan. Primary languages on radio are Dari and Pashto.

    Radio broadcasting in Sri Lanka began in 1923 (Radio Ceylon). State-owned Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation – SLBC today is the largest radio network in the country, with 6 national FM networks, 7 regional stations and External Service on Shortwave. Broadcasting is regulated by the Ministry of Parliamentary Reforms and Mass Media – MPRM . Many private radio networks and community stations also operate on FM. International broadcasters use powerful Shortwave transmitters in Iranawila, Puttalam and Trincomalee. Currently there are 3 MW/SW stations and 230 FM radio transmitters in Sri Lanka. Broadcasting is regulated by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technolgoy – MoICT . British Forces Broadcasting Service operates FM station in Kathmandu. Over 300 private and community radio stations also operate on FM. Currently there are 6 AM and over 350 FM radio transmitters in Nepal. Primary language on radio is Nepali.
